I'm not sure what the improvement is on the Segway. In fact, I see a lot of dangerous aspects to this version - sharp edges, exposed gearbox, etc. I know it's just a prototype by a student (and pretty impressive for that), but if you're claiming an improvement on something, then shouldn't the improvement be more obvious?

It is a weak knock off of a segway. It clearly is not a new and improved segway, but perhaps this is just an example of the weak state of journalism, or the lowered bar that exists in colleges these days...

Also, while saying it is an improved segway, perhaps they mean to say it is an improved segway copy as compared to its predecessor. Maybe even improved is a poor descriptor...

Perhaps it should read as a "Less awful weak copy of a segway, compared to its shameful predecessor".

I don't know that much about journalism, but I think my headline may be more accurate, but less appealing than the OP headline...

All that aside, it is not a bad project as a home made segway. It seems to work and function pretty well. That is quite an accomplishment, in that a truly home made segway is not an easy task.
