E027, How to check battery, disassemble

I have owned a Segway I2 since 2007. The first was stolen in San Francisco with 2000 miles in 2008, and now my second I2 has battery problems from what I understand. While plug into electrical outlet, one green (upper) and one red light (lower). Turn on info key, get above error code. Want to check to see if all connections inside the Segway are connected as the 2100 miles on this Segway have been from some rough treatment. Suggestions to dis assemble and reassemble the Segway to check connections would be appreciated.
Other suggestions as to repair also welcome as this retired person cannot afford $1,000 for a battery.

switch batteryes. rear in front, front in rear. check if the other led will go red. if so, the battery have at least one element wich cannot reach full charge cell voltage.
