Lipinsky!

Great job. You beat me to the punch. I was preparing a nearly identical post, but you have done such a clear job I won't clutter up the works. Suffice it to say I believe nearly any reasonable user of a PC can copy and modify keys pretty easily. Dallas Semi makes sure of it!

I have messed with the null byte and have figured out exactly nothing.... if someone wants to clue me in email to nickj80@hotmail.com ... I would appreciate it.

Next step: THe Firmware... harder but doable.... here's to that effort... cheers...

adios

Lipinsky, this is an awesome post!!

I have been making my copies with a custom piece of hardware that I built since I had some Scenix (Ubicom) SX 28AC microcontrollers already kicking around. It was actually pretty fun since the SX controller has no native support for the Dallas 1-wire protocol.

Your method is much easier, cheaper, and I highly recommend it. If anyone likes to solder and build circuits, I could post my design. The only benefit I see in a device like I built is that you don't need a PC. It is portable enough to stick in a coat jacket when going to a Segway group meeting and make copies for the people you meet there. However, I have to admit that programmers for the SX chips are a bit pricey ($50-150) if you don't ever plan to do any other programming for these chips.

Great information lipinsky!

Too bad the site that sells the ibutton equipment has such a bad shopping cart. It has to be the most painful web order site I have ever experienced.

After an hour of screwing around, I got the order submitted.

Geesh.

It's still too much trouble for most of us, and Deviant can make mine.

A period is getting appended to the URL. I think I fixed it, if not just delete the period from the address line and press enter.

Feel bad for Dev tho, his biz is gone now. But thanks!
Some people eat out (except in Bejing) and some people cook at home.

There is plenty of business for him still. See some of the posts above. Some people find the directions above too difficult (that's a scary thought) and others just don't want to do it themselves.

It's all about knowledge and choices.

Version 2 is almost ready but I don't have time for the needed details for the last feature. The second worksheet tab creates the IBF file for the iButton writer based on the input and calculated results. The problem is that I don't know off the top of my head how to take an Excel range and write it in ASCII to a file whose name is in a cell (as 1-2-3 does, Excel does not appear to have an export function). And I don't have the time to figure it out.

Off on another trip ... to Montreal this time.

Private email if you can help me. http://www.lipinsky.com/segway/Segwa...RC_tool_v2.xls
