Liability insurance for rental
I have noticed a growing business in Segway rentals. Does anyone have a lead on an insurance company that will provide liability insurance to cover rentals? I've contacted a couple mainstream insurers and they wouldn't touch it. My agent thinks it will likely have to go through a high risk insurer. There are lots of places renting bikes, mopeds, waterskis, snowmobiles. They can't all be going through high risk insurers?!

hiya wfb48,
welcome to segwaychat. i have a feeling that some of the rental places are having people sign contracts that puts all liability on the person paying the $40 for 30 minutes (or whatever). if something does happen there will be lots of problems. rentals have already caused bans and negative press in my area. cheers, pt ====================== segway ht journal: http://www.bookofseg.com other stuff: http://www.flashenabled.com |

PT, I don't think signing a waiver of liability excuses the rental person from liability. and passing it along to the rentee. If you are conducting a rental business, you, the rental person has an obligation to be liable and carry the insurance for a rental business. .....BEWARE ! see an attorney

To get our insurance took 4 months and we went through 27 insurance companies to find someone who would cover us. It is VERY expensive.
If you are interested in setting up a rental company, your best bet is to go through our company to get set-up and we will provide you the insurance, experience, and everything you need to open. You can send me an e-mail at [email protected] for more information. Larry |

Thanks, LarryL. While you may not want to divulge your insurer was my agent correct in indicating it would have to come through a high risk insurer?

This might be something that Segway could discuss with its liability insurer. Due to the growing number of people that want to rent HTs, having an affordable insurance resource would help boost the business.
