Listen to Philip .. he has been the New Zealand agent for over a decade, and has seen lots of machines and lots of faults.

When I was the Australian agent, I too saw lot of issues.

Philip thinks it is his error 2 or 3.

My wild guess ( from a distance ) is #2.
As you raise and lower the handlebar, it is possible that the cables inside the stem get scraped.
If the insulation is sufficiently scraped, it can expose the braid.
If this braid touches the inside of the metal tube, it will cause a shut down.
This may happen as you are gliding, it may happen at the start of a glide or after a long time.

Wrap some duct tape around any suspicious looking areas.

As with an old car - Even a properly maintained one - Reliability goes away with age. If you depend on it for mobility, perhaps get something newer with fewer miles. I bought an '08 I2 last year with 79 miles on it. The guy who bought it new had a long driveway and he only used it to go to the mailbox and back . . . . and only in fair weather

The truth is, I haven't done a damned thing. I'm so depressed that my ability to get around has been so compromised and I don't know of another scooter that I can use, I have almost given up. I will take it apart again and see what happens and report back when I use it!
I can't use the kick start scooter and those horrible gogo type scooters are a no go for me. I'd rather stay home than use them.

Please report what happens after it shuts down. That is - how do you get it to work again?

When it suddenly shuts down, I take out the key and it starts right up again. I do believe the batteries are good, maybe just a short somewhere in the wiring?

Thanks for the information. Yes, that looks like a clear indication of a fixable problem.

Look at Philip's number 2 suggestion (and other follow-ups) about the wiring, insulation, etc. And make sure that the mode button on the handlebar does not have a problem.
