I2se smaller diameter wheels
I have a Tesla Model 3. The trunk opening is only 18 inches tall. My I2se will not go into the trunk unless I take the wheels off. I have a disability and use the Segway for short trips on trips. I was wondering if there are any smaller diameter wheels available for my Segway. I think 16" wheels on the Segway would work great. I have had a Segway since since the beginning. I really love it. I am saddened by it being discontinued.
Thanks in advance for the help. |

I am aware that some people have mounted slightly larger tires to an I2, and some have converted I2 to X2 (larger diameter tires), but I do not recall anyone mounting smaller wheels.
Smaller wheels/tires could affect the ability of the control system to keep the Seg upright. It might be OK, but I would be very careful on that first test. It would certainly have a somewhat reduced top speed. |

Thanks for the reply. The tire size on the i2 and i2se is the same.

Be aware that smaller diameter tires will make your unit detect over speed conditions a lot quicker. You will have to glide slower.
The wheels are really easy to take off and put back on, just 3 13mm nuts in each side and you just need to snug the nuts down when replacing. Use a short handle ratchet wrench and unless you really apply a lot of pressure you will be fine. I have a model 3 as well. I added a stealth hitch and a carrier. I carry as many as 3 i2 units at a time. Last edited by P99Guy; 04-12-2021 at 09:31 PM.. |

Thanks for the reply. With the stealth hitch install how do you cover the opening when the hitch is not installed?

It was about $100 and replaced my old panel. Depending on when your car was made you may already have that panel. May 2019 or later may have the panel. October 2019 or later will have the panel. |

The original segway from the early 2000s had a smaller brother with smaller wheels, but that was back in the day before the lean steer. The original units had a steady stalk and steered with a twist grip on the handlebar.
This was all replaced in 2006 when the I2 came out. The smaller unit was never upgraded to the I2 platform with the lean steer shaft. Those earlier units used a single wheel bolt on a tapered spline, so those older wheels are not compatible with newer units. I agree with the posts that say more after market mods have been to add bigger wheels, not smaller. I would also agree that a hitch mount carrier is most likely a better solution than smaller wheels. Good luck.
