Prague, May 18 (CTK) - Police started testing the Segway Human Transporter (HT), which NASA invented in 2001, in the city´s centre this week, the daily Mlada fronta Dnes (MfD) writes today. The police will test the electric powered one-person vehicle for two months to decide whether to purchase it. Police in Brno, south Moravia, have decided to buy ten HTs this year, even though they are rather expensive, CZK 160,000 per vehicle, the paper writes.

The policemen using the HT like the new vehicle very much. "I´m absolutely fascinated," street police Jaroslav Molnar told MfD. Molnar said with the HT he managed to check twice as many parked cars than his colleagues on Tuesday. The vehicle can do up to 25 kilometers per hour and can easily find its way through numbers of tourists and locals walking the streets. "Standing on the HT, I can clearly overlook crowds of people who react to the vehicle very positively," Molnar says. The Segway Human Transporter is an original way for police uniforms to be more visible in the pedestrian areas and centres of Czech cities, the paper writes.

Well, that's just silly. Here in the States we all know that it was the DOD in 2002 that had a secret hand in the development of the white knuckle key Seg version that can do 65mph in the back of a Humvee.
