I went to Sports Authority and picked up a 1/2 inch excercise mat - its just like the mat pictured below and the shape is the same so I felt no need to photograph it, but it is unique in that the bottom side is a "no-slip" surface. You plop that sucker in place and its not going ANYWHERE. When its raining I flip it upside down and it feels sticky to the shoes so in effect it prevents the glider from taking a spill.
I think I paid either $9 or $12 with tax and made three sets of mats from it. BTW - thanks to Antony [MadSegs] for that idea, he carved up his girlfriend's workout mat and after gliding on cobblestone and old brick streets for 6 hours, my feet never got sore at all. In contrast after TWO hours cruising Palm Beach this past weekend without pads, my wife and I were having to stop and walk on the grass every mile or so to get rid of the "pins and needles". +B
