Newman Does Ginger
Hi folks, several of you I know, others, not yet.
I am the ghost of segways past (kidding, TIQ humor) I got my ride on a seg last night. Here is from Dweeb Cabal. My Story. Short and sweet. Big thanks to my buddy Brooster for alerting me the the ticket to ride event. I made time and Missy and I went down to the Hyatt Regency Hotel and boarded the Segway. It was no large event, just a couple of trainers and about a half a dozen people. It is indeed a very neat invention. When you first get on it shakes a little as the machine body interface get their groove on. Then you go, a little stiff at first and in a few minutes, I was ready for the open road. Too bad we were in a 20x20 room on the 5th floor. When my turn was up, I was talking to Gerri about the better Seg (E-series) and she let me jump on that. I was laughing and singing, "I'm your mailman", as I rushed around the room and did the 360 within the cones(on a dime). Thanks to Segway for allowing the Newmeister his first opportunity to ride. Missy really took to it and looked like she was dancing with Fred Astaire. Very Graceful. Amazing, she is usually afraid of machinery. -------------- To Infinity and Beyond! To Infinity and Beyond! |

http://www.segway.com/connect/calendar.html segway has quite a bit to deal with during events, bringing your segway (without checking with them) is a pretty big distraction. cheers, pt ====================== segway ht journal: http://www.bookofseg.com other stuff: http://www.flashenabled.com |

I had to call Segway to find the exact location, because all the website said was MPLS. I was stressed until I talked to a gal at Segway who was very nice and she informed me it was in the evening, so I didn't have to skip work.
Bringing your own segway to this event would have been unnecessary. Mostly, nervous first timers getting their first seg legs. Also, a sort of tongue in cheek attempt to sell one. I, of course am interested, just don't have the need or space for it right now. Eventually, I'm sure, I'll own one. To Infinity and Beyond! |

Glad to hear you finally got your first ride, Newmy! Sometime we'll have to get you on one for a good outdoor cruise.

Greetings to All Seggers/Gliders from Brooster
It's been a long twelve or thirteen years since all of us in the pre-release days were just absolutely giddy with excitement.
I came across this old thread and just wanted to say hello to anyone who may still be around. Still have my i167 Seg with its prototype "open" wheels ... batteries are dead now but I look at it every day. One day soon we'll get it going again. Many, many miles went under that Segway in Chicago ... I had an absolute blast. Best to all from CT ... be good. Broo

Let us know if you ever decide to part with it If you can still get the firmware updated on the Gen1, 14.x works with LiIon and would make that ride super awesome.
I heard once that if you had the open wheel segway it sounded like a Jetson's car when it went by. Is that true? jeff

Hey Broo, I missed out on some of that early excitement, because I came to segways from a different path. I got my machine in 2003, but did not discover this internet site or following till many months later. (I live 40 miles from the factory, so my dealings back in 2003 were with them directly in Bedford) I wonder how many of us are out there, people who discovered segways, or the excitement of segways, but did not have the communication with others like the posting above... I recall my training at the factory the day I bought my e. It was a lot of fun, and I brought a friend. I only wish at the time they told me about the forum.
