Quick answer:
Your homeowner's insurance might already cover your Seg for theft and damage. It might also cover you for liability while operating your Seg at your residence. Or, it might not. Some homeowner's insurance requires a rider for recreational vehicles. Most homeowner's policies do not cover liability while away from your residence, although some members here report that their homeowner policy does provide such coverage. For most, liability insurance comes with a special Segway policy, such as from Progressive. Your experience may vary. The vast majority of insurance companies and agents are clueless about Segs. If your agent says you are "covered", make darned certain you know what your coverage is, and where that coverage is in force. |

What is Your Comfort Level
There several threads on this topic.
For me liability coverage is the key . . . like to sleep at night knowing if I hit a luxury car door or little old lady a BIG insurance company might fight the case for me. Of course 'i will be in the right" but it will be less stressful with an insurance company. If the SEG is your only transportation than more coverage might be wise of course. For basic coverage Progressive covers nearly all the U.S. 3,002 miles with "three nearly hit" the door of a car not yielding at a driveway. |

And Progressive classifies them as motorcycles. Go figure.

On my State Farm insurance card, it's listed as a mini bike. The agent asked "how many CCs?" I said it's electric and then she wanted the horsepower ratting.
Only $11 a month, not bad if you ask me.

My bud just told me that Statefarm just changed his classification to recreational vehicle and his premium for each one is $20 every six months!

My State Farm Homeowner's wouldn't cover my X2 while on the road.
They (State Farm) said it was considered a 'motorized vehicle' and needed it's own policy to be insured in public places. I live in a state with 'no-fault' insurance, and it sux. The policy State Farm rit up wanted $265 per year. I went with Progressive (Flo) for $99 per year. |
