Default Just fixed mine

Problem - Segway i180 with yellow fenders will not start.

Indications - Upon start up, blinking red wrench is displayed about 20 blinks. Battery charge lights appear to be working normally.

Repair Attempt 1 - Swap batteries, front to back - n/c

Repair Attempt 2 - Swap Nickel/Metal batteries for Lithium - n/c

Repair Attempt 3 - Nickel/Metals charge normally on off board charger. Swapped Lithiums back to front - n/c. Put Nickel/Metal back on the Segway i180 with yellow fenders.

Called Segway dealer, suggested Attempt 4.

Repair Attempt 4 - Take batteries off Segway. Set batteries aside for 60-90 minutes. Replaced batteries and started up Segway.

Result - Segway i180 with yellow fenders is now running normally. Left it running for an hour against the refrigerator with green smiley face Hopped on and rode around kitchen to celebrate.

Question Clarification to prior posts on Gen1 red light

This is my first post to the site so please let me know if I need to be following a different protocol.

I have, I think a Gen1 unit with NiMHD batteries 2x36 volt batteries.
I have serial number and a model number, is there a way to look up the unit with this information.
Model 1680400008

I loaned the unit for 2-3 months at which time it was wrecked, not major but steering shaft needed to be removed and reconnected, including disconnecting the wiring connectors.

Charged the unit but was only able to ride about a block then lights would turn to red and stop. I do not think there were any error codes. Tried to charge the unit and got same result.

After doing this sequence 3-4 times it would then go from green light to red almost immediately.

I removed the batteries today and wondered if there is a way to test the batteries?

Also the thread included the following"
" resoldered the battery connectors of the CU boards, booth, still fail, same way. swap the CU boards"

Could someone help with:
- "resoldered the battery connectors of the CU boards, booth"
Are the boards located under the floor panel?
Any specific guidelines for removing the panel?
What is the "booth"?

I will go ahead and try to swap the batteries and clean the connectors (any suggestion on the solvent to use for cleaning) but wanted to see if any procedure for testing the batteries before I reinstall.

Default Segway 1 Battery Test

Still hoping to hear from someone on prior concerns noted with Segway, also looking for testing procedure for batteries.

I took batteries out of unit and let stand for couple days, then reinstalled them in opposite position. It appeared to go through the charge cycle but same problem resulted.
- Red light appears immediately.

The best way to diagnose where the problem lies is -- take the Segway to a dealer (or a friend who has one), and try "known good" batteries in your Segway. If the problem goes away, one or both of your batteries has a problem.

one or maybe booth batteries don`t provide the peak current at high torque or high speed. usually this is the aging of cells in batteries.
replace with a trusted pair of batts.

Hi Felix, I have a problem with my i167, I start it up I get the non lighted stratup screen then some times the charge screen of the batteries and then the dreaded blinking red screen, then the unit shuts off. When the screen is blinking red there is no icons showing, and a two toned sound. Do you think you help me out on this unit? I rebuilt one of the battery packs the other one is good. niMh ones. I checked and repaired the wire assembly going up the shaft to the handle bar. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

NiMH batteries were discontinued about 10 years ago.
Thus your batteries are 10 years ( or more ) old.

That is pretty much end-of-life.

The symptoms that you will observe, as they die are:

1
The batteries will just have enough capacity left to power-up the Segway.

2
The batteries will have insufficient capacity for you to ride the Segway.
The Segway will go in to alarm, almost as soon as you try and ride it.

If this is what you observe, you will need new batteries.
