EV enthusiasts, hybrid owners...
EV enthusiasts, hybrid owners, and would-be EV enthusiasts might find this interesting:
http://www.evworld.com/view.cfm?sect...e&newsid=11098 It's a drop-in extension to a hybrid vehicle's battery pack. Formerly, if an owner of a hybrid wanted to do this, It would be a do-it-yourself or custom ($$$) project. This kind of battery extension lets a hybrid act as a NEV (neighborhood electric vehicle), meaning no gasoline needed when operating within a few miles distance from a charger. It's not quite out (for sale) yet, and still kind of pricey, and you do have to give up some cargo room. But having this kind of equipment supplied by someone other than the hybrid manufacturer might make it easier to gain wider/earlier acceptance. |
