Default ES2 phone app

I'm thinking about buying a Ninebot ES2.
What is worrying me a bit is that I'm a bit of a luddite about smartphones, and though I possess an old Iphone, I often happen to leave it at home.

I read that I'll need to use the Segway app to "activate" it, right? OK, I can live with it.

But is it necessary to use constantly the app in normal use, or can I uninstall it after that first activation? I dont love to have corporate stuff on my phone...

You can ride it without the phone of course, but you going to miss some features, like locking and unlocking the scooter, turning off and on or changing the pattern of the LED lights.

You mean that there is no "power" button on it, just the phone app???

No mate, you have the on/off power button on the handlebar. What I meant is that you can't lock the scooter from the application.

Is there a useful reason for using the lock functionality?

On mine it makes it beep, flash and resist movement but there's no apparent way to turn the ES2/4 Off while in this mode, so it's in a perpetually awake and battery-draining state - hardly what I would personally consider to be the function of a locking mechanism. Am I missing the point of it?

That answers that then.

So, correct me if I'm wrong, even with the connection password set up in the app, you still don't need the app to turn on the scooter - so it's effectively able to be rode off into the sunset at anyone's whim, at any time UNLESS you have it powered on and in "lock" mode?

I have the worry of taking my ES2 places with fears someone will walk off with it. Even if it's in lock mode, it's easy to take and not effective. I'd like to buy a lock for my ES2 and wondering if anyone has one they'd recommend.
