Default Segway I2 Not Sure What To Do With

Hello,

My shop came across a 2007 Segway I2. It is in good overall condition, with the exception of needing 1 battery. After speaking with Segway, I am not sure what to do. Do I sell it as is? Do I purchase a pre-owned battery? Do I purchase 2 new batteries? Everything is working as far as the info controller, tires are in ok shape, and I've seen this machine work prior to being in storage.

Does anyone have a pre-owned battery they are interested in selling?
Would anyone be intersted in purchasing as is?

Any help, direction or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Mark

Default Well

Sounds like you need to decide what you want repair and keep or sell as is.

For the repair option look into MTO Battery as they have a very good history restoring Segway batteries.

As for keep or sell . . .
Segways are great fun!
Segways can be handy for those short trips to the local shops or pub!

In the "Stuff to Buy and Sell" forum, someone is offering to recondition batteries for $25 each, so that may be an option to consider. I don't know who they are, but there are others who recondition if you don't go with them.

Do you know how good the other battery is?

If you "recondition" or rebuild a battery, go with MTO Battery. They have an excellent reputation, whereas some other battery rebuilders ...um... do not.

Agreed - There are people who are 'rebuilding' Seg batteries in their basement and then asking 85% of the price of a new OEM battery for a questionable rebuild

It sounds like fastcash just wants to sell the 2007 machine for the best price he can. I think he needs to buy a used battery - No point in paying a fortune for a new or even a rebuilt one if the other battery is old. Then when you have it running, sell the machine - You'll get more if it runs and can do 10 or 15 miles

I wouldn't pay more than $200 or so for battery 8 years or older though and the one you have which still works may be even older than that - Check the date code. There are eBay sellers who will charge you $450 for an 8 or 10 year old battery - They don't even advertise how old they are, just that they 'hold a good range' so I would buy from a private party if possible so you'll know what you're getting. Maybe check Craigslist in your area?

Default Segway Battery

Thank you all for the help!

Is there a way to test my "dead" battery?
