Only site admins can send out mass mailings. Click here to open up your settings page. From there, the fourth checkbox down from the top of the page needs to be unchecked. The box is marked "receive email from other members." If you don't have this option there is a possbility you don't have an email address in the system.

It was not a "message" in the sense of a PM, but rather an email. As you have opted to NOT allow members to send you emails, you should not have gotten it.

Enthusiastic Dealer
Hey Gang
Yes I'm an enthusiastic Dealer...this is the best promotion I have every seen Segway Corporate provide. As a new member of Segway Chat I looked under FAQ on the top task bar...looked under General Form Usage & clicked on "Can I Send Emails to Other Members"? The answer was yes. I sent several members the exciting news regarding Segways promotion. I have a big place in my heart for Segway prospects looking to the options for Segways helping with mobility issues. In the big picture aren't we all just trying to get more users on Segways...I do not need to list the benefits we all know how awesome Segways are. I did not send out a massive spam. I contacted individuals one at a time with this cool option to purchase a Segway. I followed the rules I saw listed. If I rocked your boat...I'm sincerely sorry. In fact after I received a welcome note from Adminstrator at SegwayChat I asked them if it was okay to contact members...I never heard back from that person answering my question. I assumed when registering as a member you had the option to receive emails and if you said okay...you might be open to cool messages from others. Once again I just want to get our message out to as many people as possible. We have a great network of Segway Dealers ready to help current Segway owners and Segway prospetive owners. Bottomline... tell your friends...NOW is one of the best times to purchase a new Segway. Thanks for listening and I appprecaite your feedback...I'm really a SegwayChat rookie but one that is committed to helping with our Segway mission. For profit
Rick
I understand your enthusiasm for the product, but let's call it as it is. The bottom line for the email was to make you money, and I can understand that, but it was unsolicited and many people are a little touchy about things of this sort. If your intent is to help and you really want more users on Segways, offer your Segways at cost. That will certianly get more users on them. SC is not just a forum for dealers to sell on, it used do help others with info and issues. There are many dealers on here and what a world it would be if every dealer emailed other members with unsolicited sell info? David Ford Texas Segway Quote:

Okay, Rick, I understand your mea culpa here, but for the last two weeks, I've found myself, mentally, back in newspaper reporter mode, so I'd like to ask a few questions.

But what was the criteria you used for choosing to whom these individual e-mails were sent? Participation in the "Disabled" forum? Making a posting in the last few days? If you say you chose these recipients, individually, there must have been a reason they were chosen. Quote:

In this case, you knocked on the door. I commend you for that... but you assumed silence was permission. It's just my opinion, but I think you should have waited for a list administrator to respond. It's likely they may have told you it was okay. But it's also just as likely they may have asked you why you made such a request, and have turned you down when you mentioned you were selling something. It's just simple politeness, Rick. Quote:
I also question the timing of your membership in the forum? I, for one, appreciate the dealers and long-time users who are enrolled here; it's been a deep well of information. And, frankly (again, my opinion only), if you joined JUST to post of your "sale," which is, actually, INC's doing and, obviously, mirrored by all dealerships, everywhere... well, I've got a problem with that. |

I don't understand all this.
If someone wants to buy a segway, they go to segway.com and find who their local dealer is. As far as I know, it's a violation of the dealer contract to sell a segway to someone who's local dealer is not you. If that is the case, I wouldn't want to deal with someone who is willing to break that contract. So why send email to a bunch of people you can't sell to without violating that contract? |

I too got his e-mail and as dealer I found it bemusing but in no way offending. Yes, he used a chat function to "spam" us but I don't think he meant any harm. All in all, no harm, no foul. Now, if he does this again...well, I'll have to ask Zorba to take his hunting unit out and see revenge Steven |

Thanks for explaining. You have answered my concerns about whether SC was revealing (or selling) email addresses. It was beyond my belief that anyone would go one-by-one through the membership to see if an attempt at emailing would result in an email or a notice that the particular member did not accept emails. I believe that as a member you had every right to send me an email that I said I was willing to receive. No problem . . . in fact, since I had not yet received anything via my blog subscription, I was interested. However, since this was a commercial action, I think it might have been a better idea to post the offer in the Buy and Sell forum rather than unsollicited emails. You have received some good press here in the past, so I hope you stick around and contribute -- welcome.
