hi, all people...
I have an i2 series (white) with the product year on the middle of 2007. I use this unit since August 2008. Since 1500kms, i have an noisy gear box when i decelerate on an slope...i think it's not the elastomar to couple the gear box to the motor because i don't lose traction on high rising road. My question: I think dismantled the gearbox to check the oil. I know to purge car engine oil and oil gear...but, in a segway gear box, it's Oil like the Gear box of car ? (75W80 liquid) Or an "graphite" grease like in scooter engine ? (solidifies at low temperature to adhere to the bearings) thank you for your advice...

I can't tell you too much, but I don't think a bad coupler will cause loss of traction. It is designed to still function even when broken.
Also, I love your avatar. Are you the Laughing Man, or just a copycat? |

no, no...a simply addict of GITS & SAC ( sorry for the not-anim. fan).
Okay, so...I will contact my national provider to buy 2 Elastomer Coupling piece. thank you for giving me clarified that the noise may be the coupler without loss of traction.

I have never heard of a loss of traction being caused by an elastomeric coupler problem -- even total disintegration of the elastomer would not prevent the wheel from turning. I would bet that the elastomer IS your problem, and you should look at that before splitting the gear box. Also, a rubber hose washer wedged between the fender and the platform will definitely dampen the amplified noise.

Reviving an old thread. Probably should have searched before starting my own.
Is this the noise that was heard? The original video no longer works. https://youtu.be/VRi79aLqS-A |

I took the wheel off and checked the gear fluid level. The amount of fluid is what is level with the fill plug with the entire unit level for riding. So about the bottom 20% of the gear box has fluid. Not sure if this is normal but I suspect it's meant to be level with the fill plug when the entire Segway is level.
Here's the sound with the wheel off with direct manipulation of the hub. https://youtu.be/Ynw4jccsuZU |

Hello Sorka,
every Segway has this noise. Your unit is not broken in any way. |
