SanJose HP Pavillion "new rules"
Does anyone have any "clout" with the HP Pavillion for the use of Segways for Sharks games - or anytime?
I was stopped at the door and the management made me check my Segway in and someone came along with a wheelchair to "escort" me to my seat. It was not a pleasant experience for me, since as you all know you are not treated the same in a wheelchair as you are on your Segway. Any other places we should avoid with our mobility devices? Thanks for listening. |

WOW, that sucks!
I have never had that happen. I've attended 4 sharks games this year.
I enter the left door, head right for the elevator. I park it in the handicap area and head to my seat. jeff Quote:

Wow, I would definitely speak with some of the people there. Maybe Jeff can help, since he has experience there, and hasn't been instructed to get off his machine.
(By the way, I'm a huge hockey fan, and will definitely be watching the current Sharks vs. Stars series; though I'm probably not rooting for your favorite team. I'm a Stars fan, from the Minnesota North Star days). -Sal

Thanks for your support guys -- I have e-mailed the Pavilion management, but have not heard from them yet. Unless anyone has any ideas about specific persons to contact, I guess I'll have to root for my Sharks at home.

Another thing to add. I do have a placard on my segway, and normally approach the door seated on my SegSeat.

Thats Illegal under ADA.
alamopokekymom,
I have no "Easy Button". First be sure to have a Placard on the segway, then print some of the docs in this link. http://www.draft.cc/draft3/DRAFTCHAT...c/Default.aspx All these are available at www.DRAFT.org under Advocacy. The bottom line is that this is a violation of Title III of the ADA. That is a place of "Public Accommodation" and as such must modify their "Policies and Procedures". I would not let them keep me from going to the games. Be prepared in advance, docs and argument at the ready. Also have a phone # for the local news outlets so you can also tell then your story. I would also hound management as well as your local officials for a resolution. They are hoping that you "go away" by brushing you off. Stay on them. Here is a list . I would start at the top, if you don't already have this info. http://www.hppsj.com/staff_operations/eventcontacts.asp Next stop would be to the City of San Jose legal department And Director of Disabled Services. They own that building and are in this also. City of San Jose Attorney: http://www.sanjoseca.gov/attorney/ Disabled Services: http://www.sanjoseca.gov/DisabilityPrograms.asp Be Big, Alan

I do have a Placard Sticker on my Segway and a SegSeat, but I was not seated when I entered the Pavilion. The staff seemed to be waiting for me - I was probably sighted in the parking lot. Thanks also for the document links - I will use this information and fight for my rights.
