Question 3D Printer?

Does anyone here have a 3D printer? Or access to one? Or can recommend a 3D printing service first-hand?

I need to have a part made from plastic, and in my R&D/low-volume phase, it's probably the only way to make something affordably and quickly...

Let me know!

Thanks,
Fernando

Fernando,
If you can't find somebody locally, call the following. When I last spoke to them 18 months ago, they were installing and debugging a unit:

Miller & Debel Prepress Service
Phone: (212) 594-5494

If you speak with either Michael Debel or Adam, tell them l I sent you. I'm assuming they followed through on the installation.

There are a ton of services out there. I went to locate one I had read about, that seemed to have pretty reasonable prices, and couldn't find it among the myriad of Google hits!

But consider CNC milling as an alternative -- depending on the nature of your item. It may be less expensive, faster turn-around, and stronger, with less of a "stairstep" surface. 3D printers can do some thing that you can't mill, of course.

I haven't used any of these services (yet), but I'm definitely intrigued.

John,

Thanks for the info.

Bob,

Are you talking about CNC milling of plastic? If so, I must confess that I hadn't thought of that or know that it was possible...

I know that I can find "a place" to do 3D printing, I'm just curious if anyone here has had a positive personal experience with anyone in particular.

Keep the suggestions coming!

Yes, CNC milling of plastic is certainly possible and available as a service.

In fact, google 'cnc milling plastic', or substitute your favorite plastic for "plastic".
