Important Tire Solution!!
No More Flat Tires...Ever! No More Air Pressure Issues...Ever!
With months of frustration, dealing with tubes for the Cheng Shin tires; the flats, correct tube sizing issues, and the headache of uneven pressure over the years...A solution is at hand. And it works!! Recently I had 4 new Cheng Shin tires 'flatproofed' using the Arnco system. "Pumped into the tire through it's valve stem, Arnco's patented liquid polyurethane flatproofing polymer replaces all of the air and cures to a resilient, synthetic rubber core in 24-48 hours. It completely eliminates flats and the need for air". The tires weigh about 5 lbs more, which I think gives it a little more stability at the base. You can literally run the tire tread down to the rubber core, which will give up to several years added use. And, the company can take off the old tire and core and replace a new tire/core on the rim. The ride is a bit stiffer, but not enough to be a bother. I have done this through a commercial Goodyear tire company at a cost of only $8.00 per tire. The cost of a tube. Check out the manufacturer web site: arnconet.com No more flats, no more putting air in the tires, and no more worries about riding over glass or other sharp objects. This is a major breakthrough in improving the 'tubed tires' issues and the inconvenient process of adding air in the Gen 2 units. Check it out.... P.S. After several days of intense testing, I am having all of my tires filled and flatproofed...

Details?
Hey Tom,
This sounds really great. I can't stand having to check and fill my i2 every couple of weeks! Some questions: Which of the Arnco processes did you use? Was it SuperFill? In the case of the i2 which has an inner tube, does the product go in the tube or is the tube removed? Where did you have this done? Is it a national chain that maybe exists around here? Thanks, Fernando P.S. Are you going to FesT? Might be worth inviting these folks to FesT and offering their service there! |

Veddy Interesting...
Hmm, kinda like the canned flat-fix compound that others have posted about, but more permanent.
Since your "suspension" is now completely dependent on how much polymer was used to fill the tires, how does your Segway ride over bumps, cracks, potholes, and the like? Aloha, Roger

Mahalo (Thanks)

I'm interested in knowing if the extra ten pounds, or having solid tires, will affect your ride over bumps, wide cracks, potholes, rough surfaces, or the like. I have launched (By accident, of course) off bumps and wonder if your solution will change the absorption or rebound characteristics of the tires. It sure would be great not having to deal with inflation pressures. Aloha, Roger

I'm gonna PM Tory about this, I seem to recall him being curious about solutions such as this, because he is unable to change tires due to his health.

increased rolling resistance decrease range
I'd like to know if Tom gets emperical evidence that the segway's range is reduced by this new tire solution. I think I've heard of other applications of this technology where rolling resistance increases and thus range decreases.

the only loss of range should be from increased weight. the gen 2 is more than 10 lbs heavier than gen1.
