I'm wondering why the batteries are taped into place in some of the photos... :P
Quick notes: The LSF is collapsable, and there's much room beneath it, almost as if they expect some accessory there.

I dunno about the ripoff, but I'm liking the chinese power ballad.

It appears like the Chinese may have invented this in 1997, years before the Segway's unveiling of the Segway HT. From one website:

"The Chinese Segway Personal Transporter is the first of its kind a two-wheeled, self-balancing electric personal transportation device invented by three Chinese in October 1997. It is produced by Global Starmoon Fashion Sports Co.,Ltd."
http://xiuxianche.en.ec21.com/Chines...0_3780290.html

Wait...I forget that facts, ages, and years are more "flexible" in China, or at least that's what the Olympics gymnastics people said...

I really wish China would better honor foreign intellectual property. It's really unfortuante that skilled people spend years of their lives creating such an elegant product and then someone "copies it" wholesale with no regard. Someone even copied Segway Inc.'s product naming and marketing!

There are dozens of videos of the knock-off at metacafe:

(offroad/drop off big curb at end)

It's interesting that one rider in this video is riding what may be an authentic white Segway PT i2 (closeups at 2:10, 2:40, etc.):

Links to more videos:

What a brazen knock-off.

Default Ok, whine about the "rip off" if you want, but . . .

Ok, whine about the "rip off" if you want, but . . . I do like the wheels! They're totally pimp and check it out, you can inflate the tires without having to perform gymnastics.

quade,

You do have a point: the "after-market" wheels are pretty cool

Question

Anybody know if the microprocessors (if not the whole control board) are manufactured in China?

Wouldn't THAT be a coincidence? NOT!!

I don't think they share hardware in any way...

In the videos, you can also see quite inferior performance, and it seems as if it's trying to maintain an "uncomfortable" angle (Think permanent speed-limiter).

I particularly like the mudguards, perfectly designed to slice open the legs of capitalist running dog pedestrians and cyclists!

Are these in turtle mode, or do they seriously underperform, or are the riders simply inexperienced and timid?

From the amount of LSF deflection required to turn at low speed, it looks like turtle mode to me. Even when they're moving in small circles, it looks like the LSF is displaced more than their body CG.

Obviously, we can't have infinite voltage, or the universe would tear itself to shreds, and we wouldn't be discussing Segways.
