Default ES4 Meltdown

I wrote this question yesterday on Reddit:

Battery Management System

Per the manual for an ES4:

Over-heating, short circuit, over-current, and over-charge protection

About an hour ago, while riding on flat ground for a couple of miles in 100 degree weather (the manual says it’s good until 104, I checked), the scooter just quit. The lights on the external battery are flashing white, the electric brake is engaged, and I can’t turn it on or off.

I assume it over-heated, and the “Battery Management System” the manual mentioned kicked in and shut everything off; however, I can’t find out how to reset it! The battery is completely cool now. If anyone can help, I’d truly appreciate it.

Thoughts?

Default Follow-up

Just heard from Segway:

“We apologize for the trouble you are experiencing with your scooter! We would like to bring it in for warranty service to fix the issue. Thank you for providing us the necessary information to start the repair process.”

Have any of you gone through this before? What should I expect—and what should I look out for?

Default Reply: ES4 Meltdown

It took about a week to get a response to a web form I submitted. Though I ended up submitting 3 more web forms during that same week because there was no confirmation that it was being received. But in the end Segway Support sent me a shipping label to send them my ES4 because it is un-rideable due to it automatically braking all the time. Segway Support did mention that it'll take about two weeks to get the scooter back.

Exclamation ES4 meltdown

Hi there
I think I’ve had the exact same problem. I hit a bump in the road and the scooter went dead. I then found if I took it out of sports mode it would go again. I road around like that for a while but then again it packed up. I opened up the casing and found some of the wires had melted. I cut off the burnt / melted bits, re attached the wires, but it beeps and screams when I turn it back on, flashing the mechanic sign. Any ideas?
