Segway Lock Kit
So, lemme get this straight, I just dropped five large on a scooter designed to run errands but most places won't let me take it inside their shops with me. What am I supposed to do; leave it outside? Well, yes. It's not the shop's fault you're on the bleeding edge and don't expect any sympathy from the minimum wage workers at the cash register either.
Unfortunately, the current i2/x2 models are designed in such a way that securing them with a "normal" bike lock leaves the most expensive bits (the entire Base!) easily detachable by anyone with a hex wrench. The Segway Lock Kit solves this issue by attaching the lock to the bolt that connects the Lean Steer Frame to the Base.
Does this mean that your ride is as secure as Fort Knox? Well, no. Even very high security safes are rated in the amount of time they'll take to
slow down, not stop, someone determined to get at them; usually just a couple of hours.
The Segway Lock Kit is really no different. It will deter the curious joy riders from swiping your ride while your back is turned at the burger stand, but let's be honest, it's not going to stop anyone if they have enough time, tools and opportunity. It's fine for a trip inside a shop, but I'm not 100% certain I'd feel "safe" leaving my i2 locked up, even at a mall in broad daylight, long enough to watch a movie.
BTW, I guess it should go without saying that the Segway Lock Kit is completely incompatible with the
Segway LeanSteer Frame Tool-less Release, but what the heck, let's say it anyway.
