What you are looking for is the ibot wheelchair. It was invented by Dean Kaman who also invented the Segway. It uses some of the same technology used in the Segway. He licensed J&J to market and sell it. Unlike the Segway it is FDA approved and cost about $25,000.00.
Below is a link to the J&J site with info on the ibot. http://www.jnj.com/innovations/new_features/IBOT.htm |

I guess we are in similar fields,I run a little design company with enfasis on "Dinamic" Ergonomics. for a long time i have a really big interest in the field of movility specially for less-able people.sorry if that does not sound to PC,,is not my intension to offend,on the contrary I wish i can help make their lives a little better. sound like the I-Bot is doing pretty good so i have a little question(i just glance at the pictures) I just saw a photo of a guy with a remote control(the person was standing) so my question is,,can the I-bot be driven like a remote control car, so the person can park it inside the car by him self, after he is being seated on the driver seat of the car. to me that canandrum always intrige me,,in other words,,,,how people get from the trunk of the car to the driver seat, the way I see it a chain of events only needs one weak link to be broken... thanks again, your site and John site are a great source of information |

The ibot can be remote controlled. I would suggest contacting J&J for more information. Perhaps they could even arrange for a demo for you from a rep.
Sunday Segway-more fun than you can stand! |
