I thought it was understood that that some people's rep on this forum is artificially inflated.

No, really. Check out the member list. Then sort it by reputation. Then observe the post count for some of the highest repped members. Make your own judgement from there.

Just because these moderators can and did manipulate their own reputation points does not mean that they did manipulate other people's points, but there is no way to know. Also, not all staff members here have those inflated reputation values. Some do not. One staff member even has two screen names, which is something that I once got moderated for. (I had allowed my young son to join, and use my computer. When this same person who has two screen names found out I could post on my son's account, he moderated me) It does not matter. It is prudent to weigh the value of each persons posts as best you can. The internet is not only full of liars and charlatans, but is also managed by an assortment of people who fit many good and bad descriptors. I feel it is the duty of us all to out the sham, to correct the record, and to try not to let the false lay unchallenged. Even then, sometimes it stays in print. This is the internet, not a place you can trust by any measure.

I fully agree, rep doesn't mean much, and neither does post count. I'm just throwing my observation out there as I believe it relates to the discussion. I invite others to form their own judgement about how the site runs by looking at the facts for themselves.

I love how a thread about number of visitors on the forum quickly moves off-topic into how reputation points are achieved, and how the forums are run by "staff." There is no "staff" -- there are one or two volunteers who keep the forum running in their free time.
And trust me when I say that no one is sitting around trying to figure out how to make SegwayChat achieve world dominance. Seriously, I and nobody I know has time for those kinds of games online. Thanks for the kind acknowledgment of this random statistical "achievement." John PS - The timeout setting here hasn't changed in years. It's still 30 minutes, same as it ever was. I put absolutely no value in "visitors online" as there are a thousand different things that can influence that number, mostly automated search spiders which we have no control over. There's something like 1,000 new search engine spiders created every day, from what I've seen (most of them spam-related).
