Default Hi, people who understand my obsession!!!

I was out with my boyfriend Sir Gway last night, enjoying the beautiful spring weather. LOL. My husband is only slightly jealous of him.

I bought Sir Gway from my company last spring. When the Segway was first introduced, they bought one to see if it could be used by or adapted for the blind. A course was built, testers were sent out, everyone in the company had a chance to use it. I didn't work here then.

Last spring, someone mentioned it in passing, and I was flabbergasted. I have been OBSESSED with Segways since they were announced, and here there was one in my building gathering dust in a store-room!!! My boss immediately had it brought up for me & sent me out for the afternoon to learn to use it. I have been in love ever since, and it was arranged to let me buy it.

Now I use him for traveling around downtown Baltimore, running errands, and, when the weather is nice, commuting to work. I live beside Camden Yards (the ballpark downtown), so I am quite a sight to many, many people when I come home from work and lines of fans are waiting to get in to the park. I keep thinking they would get used to seeing a Segway, but most people seem to be seeing one for the first time. I admit that I do get a little tired of the constant staring and pointing, but usually I am happy to discuss him if people are moderately polite. (at the local ballpark-adjacent pubs, I've heard "Why don't ya try walkin'!" shouted at me a few times. I just tell myself they are jealous )

I'm excited to be in a forum with other Segway enthusiasts. I have only heard of one other Segway owner in my city, and I have yet to meet him. I look forward to learning from everyone.

Welcome, Kristina!!! Yep, I can see that Segway smile, already! You've got a nice sized Segway community in the DC/Annapolis area, so take advantage of it. Will Hopper, who is an admin here (but out of town right now, I think) can fill you in. It's even more fun when you can Seg with friends -

Take care,
Pam

Default We have a big group in the MD/DC area

of users who love segging.

We were just in the Greek Parade in Baltimore last month, and probably will do the Columbia MD one in June.

Kristina pm me with your email and I will send you an invite to our local users group chat site.

Hi Kristina! I too live outside a ballpark for spring training for the Cardinals & Marlins (Roger Dean Stadium) and every single week I glide past the same oohs and ahs, as well as the occasional tobacco spitting redneck yelling out obsurdities and occasionally trying to knock me off or seeing if they can scare me into falling. Rednecks zero, Bill 200 or so and counting...

Isn't it fun?

Glad you said OBSESSED, that is the secret word. Now you are appreciated here even more than you would have been!

Greetings, Kristina. I feel like female forum members are few and far between (female gliders for that matter) and it's always nice to see one join the ranks. we must unite!

Happy to have you here. and here's my suggestion for the instant celebrity that goes along with riding one - wear headphones. you don't need an ipod, or a discman, just the headphones. put the cord into your handlebar bag and then ride along and hear what people say. if they say something rude you can stop and then say,"oh, i'm sorry. did you say something?" and freak them out. you should try it - it's fun!

You are in for a lot of fun. There are lots of segs and active seggers in your area...

I love my machine, but find it is a great deal of fun to seg with others...

Oh, yeah, there are a couple turkeys in here too. Don't sweat it...

Feel free to ask any questions you may have. This place is not only full of friendly people, but is a font of knowledge, segway wise...
