Rent a Segway HT (from Segway.com)
It looks like Segway is believing in the rental model, at least to some extent (probably to encourage people to buy). On their front page:
"Want to try the fun Segway HT for yourself? Use our locator to find dealers and rental locations across the country." You can find out more about renting, including how to apply for your own rental location at: http://www.segway.com/connect/locator/ You can see the rental locations at: http://www.segway.com/connect/locator/rentals.html Rentals are available in Celebration Florida, Pacific Beach California, and Salt Lake City Utah. Apparently, they're coming soon in Alaska, Illinois, and Hawaii. Chris |

Plus, of course, I guess there are already rentals in Washington state, etc. I don't know why those aren't on the list yet . . .

The reason we are not listed is because we do not fit the "model" that Segway is currently trying to work under. We have been in constant communications with Segway and are working on a variety of concepts with them.
Segway will not set-up a rental center that allows hourly rentals - only guided tours and in-house demos. Since we offer the hourly rentals, we must prove to them first - with time - that we are safe. Larry Fun Transport - Segway Training and Rental Center Spokane, Washington |

That's an interesting thought, Larry. Leaving your firm out completely (as we've discussed your goals and values in the rental business and I think most everyone agrees that you're doing it in a responsible way) - I can see why they might want to start with the guided tours and in-house demos - because there would always be a staff member on hand. Time is on your side here, and you will be the opening (and probably set the limits/policies) for the hourly rental business.

The Segway rep said they won't allow that in their "rental model" so I don't know how they are doing that. But I can assure you I'll find out.

Hawaii coming soon ... sounds like the guy I talked to while in Honolulu .. they're going to do guided tours of Waikiki by seg.
Not a bad idea actually ... you get a group of 5 - 10 seggers and one leader who cruises around with you for an hour. This way you get to keep your eye on the machines while being rented out. Aloha, Sam http://www.konasegway.com |
