Default Charging door

Has anyone had the little tab the makes the door snap shut break off? Mine just disappeared, and now the door falls open as I ride. I wish they'd added a spring around the hinge pin to make it snap closed on its own. I'm thinking of gluing on a pair of thin magnets. Any better ideas?

Default Fixed!

Judging from the pictures you referenced, we might be talking about different tabs. I'm talking about the single tab that makes the charging door snap shut.

I just fixed mine using a pair of magnets from an old Sonicare. They're exactly the right size. I just trimmed off what was left of the tab on the door and the nub it mated with with an x-acto, put a dab of 5-minute epoxy on each part, joined the two magnets side-by-side, then closed the door and slid them into the epoxy.

I can't imagine how mine broke, but this fix worked great. I might use a Dremel to make a little fingernail slot so it's easier to open the door though.

I can take pictures if anyone wants, but maybe this isn't a widespread problem.

Terry,
Why don't you post the picture(s). I'm betting we will all eventually face the problem. I think I understand your solution, but a picture never hurts. Clever thought to use the old Sonicare magnets.

Thanks.

Mine broke early on...I didn't seek warranty replacement since it is a non-warrantied part!

I used something clean and simple...a small velcro tab on each side (door and i2).

I'll post pictures in the next few days. (I have to figure out how again.) Anything for a fellow 'bent' rider.

Yea, my door snap broke off. Bad design.

I called segway and asked for a replacement white plastic middle hump cover, and they sent me one.

Mine hasn't broken off yet but it sure is getting loose with time. I wonder if that piece breaks if it can be replaced under warranty. I don't see how Segway can blame a person if it breaks. It's not like we are using a screwdriver to open the door. As much as I hated the little rubber plug on the i180, I think this design is worse.
