Weird Behavior
Hi All--
My i-Series started to do an emergency shutdown warning (beeps and red flashing) after very short rides. I self-daignosed that the batteries were most likely in need of replacement, since this unit was one of the first, and originally belonged to an employee, who bought it from Inc. during the first employee offering. I sent the batteries off to be refreshed to the battery company I found out about here in the forum (thanks very much!). After I received them back, went on a nice long ride maybe 3-4miles, I'd guess, but with over 2 bars still showing (and not yet home!) it went back into shutdown warning mode. I re-started a couple of times and down-shifted to the black key, and it went for awhile but ultimately shut down again. I swapped with my wife (smaller and less weight!) and rode her p-Series home. She kept the i-Series on the black key and had no problems. Any ideas? Thanks. -Mark

Since your profile shows you have an i-167 (Gen1), I presume you have NMh batteries. By "refreshed", is it safe to assume they were merely reconditioned by cycling them several times? Rebuilding with the new high capacity cells should get you a lot more. Sounds as if your range is less than 7 miles, but if you rate a 3-4 mile ride as being "a nice long ride", then maybe you can get by a bit longer.

Refreshed Batteries
Hi John--
No, I don't mean refreshed in the classic sense of recharge/discharge. I mean brand spanking new extended cells put into my existing battery cases from MTO Battery. -M

Mark,
What version software do you have in your 167? If you have the 14.2, it should not let you start back up after a battery shutdown. What kind of connectors do you have on the control shaft? Perhaps they have come loose. jeff

Software version
Not sure of the level—it has not ben upgraded since I've had it—I did not do the Upgrade that Inc. did in response to the FTC.

Are all the screws properly tight - especially the one at the base of the control shaft and (careful not to over-tighten) the ones that hold the batteries in?
When you switched conveyances with your wife, did the i167's handlebar get adjusted downward? If you keep riding without re-adjusting the control shaft height, does it go ok? |

I picked up on that too. A short ride for us is 7 miles round trip to get groceries. Everything else is easily twice that. Shouldn't the range be about 1/3 more than the factory packs? Wouldn't that be almost 20 miles?

Private Message. See the upper right hand corner of your screen. If you go into My Account, you can set it to popup an advisory message when you have a private message awaiting.
Have you contacted Jason at MTO -- if you paid $800 or so and you are only getting 7 miles, something is badly wrong.
