E042 means that battery is bad.
You'll need to either swap with a new/working one, or have someone try and rejuvenate it for you...

I had hoped that I didn't need new batteries. Can I be positive that the batteries are the problem? Can I replace just one or do I have to change both? I'll let you know how I make out. THANKS

Wink Many Batteries can be revived.

Many batteries can be revived, at quite modest cost.
There are people who can assist you, who are nearby.

You would probably benefit by contacting me.
