Since there is no seatbelt, I suspect the kneepads deploy airbags in the event of the rider prematurely leaving the vehicle during sudden stops.

That's one way to avoid a faceplant...

I think it has more to do with the fact that when she arrives at her destination, she has to suction cup herself up the outside of the building, but I think all your silly explanations are cute...
