pt,
okay i think your taking it a bit far. When I talked to Jack yesterday he said he would never do what he did again, namely meeting us in surrey and doing the training. Afterwards he encouraged all of us to come down to the office and watch the video. Two of us did do that yesterday and I think the video is great and an important detail in learning to ride the segway. I don't want my kids to say to me one day "Hey dad, do you know why Segways are banned in Vancouver?" and have to come clean on this story. On the legal front. I understand that there is no legal ground for me to remove the video. Jack's stance was that he wasn't asked permission and he is in the video so it's illegal to show it. That is simply not true. Shows like COPS have to blur out people's faces only because it's on a Public brodcasted network. The internet isn't governed by the same laws because you choose to click on a link and download it, it's not pushed to your TV like a broadcast system. I loved riding segways and there is no way i would have had the chance if it wasn't for Jack starting Segway Rentals. Too bad he hates me now. Andrew ======== http://m3mm.com |

Andrew, it's a shame he hates you, but the truth of the matter is that he is upset because he's been caught doing something that shouldn't have been done... Not because of something you did. You were simply an instrument at this point in time, and he would have been caught by someone else doing the same thing at some other point. So he's blaming you for the heat for his own behavior (training lapses). Other than the fact that you've lost one source to playing with a Segway, I'm not sure you've lost a lot.

it's windows media, so it's hard to get frame by frame, i might be able to get it in a better format that allows that tho...the 2nd half of the video is in slow motion, do you need it slower than that? i can most likely fo that.

I want to measure the acceleration in reverse and the velocities of the stick moving forward over the top from the still frames. Personally I have NEVER gotten my platform so far away from vertical and never plan to do so. I do get "me" that far back in a fast stop, but the stick is always at arms length from my body and the platform much more level. I would have expected the Segway to have limit tripped on the back lean and dropped Andrew on his butt, but it didn't. I wonder why it didn't? If it had Andrew would have continue to slide forward, perhaps into harm's way. Instead the Segway stopped him short and then "deposited" him straight down on a spot short of harm's way. Incredible... The Segway is designed to prevent injury no matter what. Then sensing that the rider is out-of-bounds it put him off the machine safely before there could be any more mayhem! Smart machine! Chris |

pt, the usual way to get WM video to AVI is through the DirectX toolkit or what have you. If you Google it, instructions are available.

I am reading all of your comments and concerns about training people to use the Segways before letting them glide off, and I can;t get one comment out of my mind...
When you go to a location where rentals are readily available (golf carts, electric cars, bikes, scooters, etc.) they take a driver's license and a credit card from the renter... not necessarily the operator. You will tend to see many 14 year olds cruising around in the golf cart that daddy rented for them. There are no laws that say that a 14 year old cannot drive a golf cart. I see a kid in a golf cart with much more potential to cause damage, than a kid on a segway. Comments? |
