But I don't even recognize the place anymore. Oh, right, they dug it up. And they're still trying to get it right. It's been 18 years since I left, and it's a bigger mess than ever. Are the same contractors that screwed it up still getting hired to fix it?
I hated leaving Boston, but I'm glad I did. We have our entertainments out here -- the Governator, for example -- but our traffic mess is at least sane.
Last time I was in Boston, I went to get onto the Tobin Bridge northbound, from Charlestown (after coming in from Logan via Chelsea, which I barely but successfully remembered how to do).
Lo, and behold, I found myself a circular detour, over the bridge to Commercial, over to Leveritt Sq, to Lechemere, and back to Charlestown. I went around that mess 4 times, looking for the way out; three different masses of construction, each with their own detour, feeding into the next detour. I finally gave up, and took 99 to 16, and got to my hotel around 3am.
I think the people in Charlestown wanted me to get on 95 southbound, and turn around somewhere. But the freeway entrance was one of the detours. I even bypassed that and got on somewhere else, only to find the first exit that wasn't blocked off with tunnel repairs was I think Mass Ave or somewhere around there. Came back, got fed into another detour, back into the same mess.
Must be good for employment in the construction industry.
