I agree that this is a pretty substantial and relatively common design, in general.

The Can-AM motorcycle is pretty popular, and I have not heard of any significant safety issues from that design. In some ways, this is a similar vehicle with covers. (although seating and engine location is very different)

While I appreciate their video about impacts and safety, I consider this item much closer to a motorcycle in impact safety than an SUV, but clearly has many car like safety features as well. I would say a bit less than a car, but much more safety features than a motorcycle.

Under any conditions, impact with anything should be avoided. Hard to quantify, but I suspect it would be an uncomfortable situation with this item, but no less so than with our segways, or motorcycles, or other ultra light vehicles like this.
