It is a non-problem really.

Each battery has an internal chip that monitors battery performance.
Amongst other things it reports over-charge.
This triggers the red light if a battery is over charged.

There is a fault in that chip, it falsely reports an overcharged battery, at completion of the charging process.

It's annoying but not a real problem.
There was no fix available, to the best of my knowledge.

This only affected an early batch of batteries.
About 3-4 years ago, from memory.
I had one such battery on my early i2. There is an override for the false overcharge error / red light (assuming THAT is the error your red light is indicating - could be another battery condition error). If the red light illuminates immediately upon being plugged in, it is probably not the overcharge error, and you should try a battery reviver. If the red light comes on after a green light at the end of a charging process, then it's probably the false overcharge error. This can be overridden by turning on the machine, putting it in security mode, THEN plugging it in. It will then charge normally and resolve into battery maintenance mode (fast, random flashing green light).
