Both JRWILCOX and I use the i2 lower cargo kit for carrying our laptops. I put two cuts on the front and back with my dremil cutoff wheel about 1-1/2 inches apart.
I then slipped a laptop holder into the just created slot and whala, a 17" carrier.

Thanks. I'll have to figure out the logistics of using it on the ferry with the added width. I won't be able to make it through the fare gate, which is barely possible without them.
