Funny enough, the information that's dead on Segway Social came from our community originally, so here it is again:

Structure of Serial Numbers: YY2WW1NNNNNN

YY: Year of manufacture (07 = 2007)

P: Manufacturing Plant (1 Manchester NH, 2 Bedford NH) All shipping units are most likely 2

WW: Week of manufacture (01...52)

1: Always "1" so far

NNNNNN: Real serial number, started with 000001 in March 2002 and incremented by one with each Segway produced.


No. 1 production series is in the Ginger Museum, the chassis cover signed by every employee who worked there at the time. [2]

BTW, if batteries have been replaced -- as they inevitably have on any Gen 1 machine -- don't expect the serial numbers to match up. That's perfectly normal, just ask when the batteries were replaced.
