Recently did an X2 conversion of my 2008 i2. Rode about 10 miles (2 rounds of golf) but wasn't happy with performance.This was using off-road tires, not turf tires. Converted back to stock i2 and now it seems to have issues with suddenly slowing and nose diving, especially when going up or down hill.Once it slows down it will then accelerate as normal, but this is a bit unnerving as it feels like it's going to pitch me off. Level riding seems fine. Control board problems??

I think it is most likely a coincidence that the decrease in performance has occurred at the same time as experimenting with swapping about the wheels on your PT. I doubt that temporarily fitting larger, heavier off-road wheels has caused any damage to your PT. Off-road wheels do increase drag (and thus performance), especially so at lower tyre pressures.

I suspect one (or less likely, both) of your battery packs is getting weak with age, and this has just begun to result in noticeably decreased performance. Your packs are, presumably, manufactured about a dozen years ago?

Or could the decrease simply be put down to a change in temperature (for example, has it got noticeably colder recently)? Or are you carrying more payload?

If you can rule out battery performance, ask a Segway Dealer to inspect your elastomers and couplings (between the gearbox and motor). Lastly, yes a "drunk" feeling could be an issue inside the PowerBase platform (for example, the BSA).

Thanks Philip:

I've already tried swapping batteries from my wife's newer i2 and the issues are the same. Her's performs perfectly with my batteries so I'm leaning towards a control issue. We now live in Hawaii after 16 years in New Zealand so don't think temperature is the issue!

When you swapped on your wife's battery packs, did you remember that the Segway PT only operates as well as the weaker of the two packs attached to it at any one time? That is, to check that both of your packs are performing normally, you need to test each and every combination of the 4 packs.

I2->X2 Conversion

Had a similar problems immediately after I did my conversion.🤔
I found that the tire pressure on one tire was too low causing a number of alerts and stick shakes, poor performance etc. Adjusted tire pressures the same day after my confusion cleared and all was back to normal. I did not reverse the conversion and have been extremely happy with this conversion. I also now use it for golf.
Also much later, had a weak battery, similar problems. The weakest one finally failed to charge. Replaced with two new ones. Problems disappeared.
Hope this information is helpful.
Good luck in hunting down the fix.😎

Thanks, I'll give that a try. Fingers crossed.
