Stick Shake

Today my husband and I removed the handle bars from my XT to transport it in the back of his bug. This is the first time they have been off since the unit was shipped to us.

When we got to our destination and reassembled it, we now find that the stick will begin to shake violently when someone is on it just standing still.

Doesn't seem to be an issue as long as you are moving forward or backward, we aren't operating it any differently than we have been. I've looked at the book and nothing there seems to be relevant to the problem. We've tried taking it off and putting it back on, plugging in the connectors in a different order. Nothing seems to fix the issue.

I know it's not a battery issue as we had it out yesterday for a 6 mile hike (did not have this issue yesterday) and there was still plenty of charge on the unit when we plugged it back in and there is now a full charge showing on the batteries.

Any ideas? NOTE: This is not a leansteer model.

Hi

Stick shake is a warning.
There are many causes, including:
* Grazed wiring on the lower part of the connectors, in the CSB.
* Debris fouling any of the rider detect buttons.
* moisture inside the handlebar aseembly

Do any of these make sense ?

If not, you will probably have to visit a dealer equipped with a Segway Laptop.

Good Luck
Michael

I guess it'll be a trip to a Seqway dealer if we can find one near here.

It was operating perfectly yesterday when we put it up from our hike. It is stored in the living room. It was operating fine when my husband took it outside and rode it around to the car.

So unless we damaged something when we disconnected the handlebars (and we were being careful), I don't think any of the other issues apply, although I did take the pressure plate off and vacuumed it well just to make sure there was no debris causing the issue.

Try to set the handlebar height the same as it was before you transported it.

Sometimes a tiny change in height can make the difference in the stationary shake of the handlebar when not holding on to it.

This is not to be confused with the stick shake warning.

I hope this helps.

I will give that a try. There is no sort of warning that shows in the info window when this occurs, it doesn't seem to interfer with the operation of the unit and only shakes when you are stationary and remove your hands from the handle bars. As long as you keep at least one hand on the handle bar there's no shaking at all.

Aha !

Paula, with this additional info, you have no worries.

A Segway PT is a closed loop system.
( This loosely means that it is designed to be used with and by the user ).

If you open the loop ( remove your hands from the control shaft ) you are no longer able to control it the way it was designed.

One could go in to more detail, but that is the essence.

Probably as you gained confidence, and you became even more comfortable with your machine, you did this no-hands thing at the same time as you re-assembled it.
Thus confusing matters.

Alls well that ends.

I know you don't have the i series, but is this similar to what you experience?

There is a difference between the "shake stick" (non-violent) warning and a violently shaking Segway. :D

That is it exactly! Although the handle bars are still on mine, it's behaving in the same manner.

EDIT: dbgint, didn't see your reply until after I posted a reply to the video. I guess it might be a combination of things going on here, because right after we received and set up my unit, I was able to release the handle bars without experiencing this. However, what with taking them on and off and it also just dawned on me that I'd taken off the pack and haven't put it back on, I may have just confused my poor Seggie.

Do you have a handlebar bag on your XT?

I did, but we took it off when we went to put the handle bars back on as it was getting in the way and didn't put it back on....I'm going to put in on and see what happens.
