Info-key problem

Having a problem with info-key for X-2: screen blanks when start button pushed. Several tries needed to spool up the PT. OFF function is readily doable.

When was last time you changed battery?...Is the spare still under your center counsel?

This problem has existed since I changed the battery about 3 months ago. It seems to improve when I remove the cell and clean with alcohol. Other than that the thing noticed is the time resets when the start-stop button is pushed. That has been since we got the X-2s last year. Both were rental machines one with 1000 miles and one with 150. Only difference noticed is one has turf tires and the other RT!

So, have you tried another *NEW* battery? Perhaps of a different brand? Or measured the voltage of the battery?

Poor quality vs Good quality InfoKey button batteries

The dimming you are experiencing when pushing buttons that cause the InfoKey to transmit is almost certainly due to a weak button battery. This is also the usual cause of the time resetting.

In recent years a number of cheap brands of poor quality button batteries have flooded the market. When used in Segway InfoKeys these cheap brands either don't work at all, or last only a few weeks. The colder the weather, the worse they work and shorter they last. They are a waste of money. They cause great frustration.

Find a source of high quality button batteries that are made in Japan by a top international brand. Watchmakers/Jewellers Shops can be a good source. Discount Electronics stores are not.

I've had good experience with Sony, Varta, Energizer, Maxell, Panasonic, etc - but only when these have 'Made in Japan' printed on the packaging. A quality button cell that has been manufacturers using the full amount of materials should last between 6 months and 2 years inside a Segway InfoKey for many private owners (depending on how many times you push the buttons per day/week).

Ray-O-Vac made in china. Thanks for the input. There seems no electrical reason for the dimming and resetting of the time other than what you have pointed. Will post follow-up.

New, fresh Sony cell render the infokey as good as new! Works perfectly! Thank you for the proper steer!
