Well, i've just bought a used i167.
I really would like to know the difference between all of the various models, past & present. In particular the 167/170/180 both i & e versions. Furthermore the different software reference numbers that I have seen mentioned..

John,

All that is different between the i167 and the i170 is that the i167 was released in the titanium color ranging from software versions 10.0-12.0. Once the i170 was produced, Segway introduced the midnight blue option and also they all came with 12.0 software. Now the i180 had a few changes including the new 14.0 software with support for the lithium-ion batteries and also a new look with colored fenders with splashguards and colored control shaft grips.

As far as the "e" series, which is the e-stand machine. From what I hear you can get the 14.0 software on those and they have the capability to stay in one spot on any type of terrain. I saw one at the LLC and it was definately a nice feature. These were the models that the USPS was using.

The i167 & i170 as well as the NiMH i180 is $376 CAD more expensive than they should be at today's exchange rate,

Bob.

Thanks for the info. I guess that the new GT must have the "E" series software as surely one would need the "stay-in-one-spot" feature on a hilly Golf Course ? quote:Originally posted by austin@SOH

No, not at all. The bag unit is designed so that you can rest it on the mount and take clubs out of your bag.

The E software is very, very picky. I can understand why Segway does not want to sell them anymore. If you try to manipulate the machine while it is balancing on it's own, it flips out, and you can get seriously hurt.

That being said, I greatly desire one, but only because I've ridden one extensively and know how to handle it. I would not recommend an E series as one's first machine, even if someone had the opportunity to purchase one.
