Orientation class. Do new buyers still get the training?

Well, I can give you my experience as a new buyer last Wednesday. Since I had already rode the HT a few times and my dealer knew about it. The only other new thing they showed me was the safety shutdown feature. They had me get on the HT and they used some special device to perform a safety shutdown.

Since you have a minute to get off, I just got off and turned it off, end of training.

I can only speak for Segway of ALberta - Calgary, but we give a full orientation to each buyer, averages 45 min.
If we deliver the machine to the customer, we do it at their residence, normally. As a point of interest, the tech training program at Segway includes a half day session on orientation, at the end of which each student must give a complete orientation to a new rider, and we are graded on our performance and critqued. We also get a certificate of qualification, if we do it properly. Personally, I think it's important for both safety of the new owner, and it also greatly reduces the number of phone calls in the weeks following delivery with questions that are answered during a proper orientation.

We always provide a new customer with the full Segway orientation as recomended by the LLC. Wayne and I, along with the rest our class at the LLC, went through thier dealer orientation at which point they gave us all the information we need to inform the customer about. From what I understand, dealers are not allowed to sell a customer a new HT without providing them with the safety orientation.

It does not appear like in the old days when Segway set up group training sessions around the country or had one of their personal trainers or Decision One make a private visit that cost LLC 45 bucks a pop.

Sounds like Segway has streamed lined it and with the dealer network transfered the responsibility for training the end user. Which makes a lot of sense! I know several folks who got their machines and training did not happen until weeks later.

A well trained glider is an important safety feature!

As some others mentioned...unless the customer already owns an HT they're getting the FULL orientation.

We had one customer who thought he was an expert (from the demos on the black key). He paid and told me he was in a late for something else...and refused to do the training. He quickly decided to stay when I began to hand his check back!

Orientation is not an area you want to cut corners on.

Jeff,

Why did you ask this question in the first place?

Hi Jeff

In Australia, we strive to spend a few minutes with each new customer.

Sometimes it is during the sales process, on our demo equipment.
Sometimes it is on the customers equipment, at their place or ours.

We just find that getting them through that first 60 seconds is a sound and prudent thing to do.
Some people only need a few minutes ( the vast majority ), others take a little longer.
