It's a contender for the electric vehicle land speed record. It goes 0-300mph in 102 seconds.

Some UK press from a couple of years ago (http://www.hoot-uk.com/content/news/archive/general/11072003-2.html)

Some more recent press in the Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/05/05/AR2005050500404.html)

It does use Lead-Acid batteries, and they swap them out with a fresh set between runs. But it is rather impressive.

This is the additional cooling they use on the main drive motors:

I haven't seen so many DC fans bolted together since visiting the PC overclocking forums.

Think they'll make it to 300 MPH?

Not much news on this, it turns out there was another problem with the attempt on Friday, so they will try again on Saturday.

By the way, did you notice this thing does not have a gearbox? Perhaps a hub motor and this kind of motor controller are in store for a future HT design.

This could either make the platform a little roomier, the HT footprint a little smaller, or leave more room for batteries. Might make changing wheels a bit more complicated or expensive, though.

They had more problems today (Saturday) and had to give up.
