This past weekend I rented a Segway from LI Segway (http://www.lisegway.com/). The entire experience was excellent.
Aside from the fun of riding a segway, these guys know how to treat customers. I gave a call at 10 AM on Saturday just asking about renting and explaining that I had an event the next day that I wanted a Segway for. Instantly they were ready to please.
I drove over took a short demo/safety lesson and was on my way.
The segway got us a lot of attention for our Robotics Team (http://westisliprobotics.com/) fundraiser and the experience was excellent.
So if you're on LI and need to buy a rent a segway, I highly recommend LI Segway.
Now if I could only afford one for myself, all would be well :-)
