A Segway through Amazon with S&H incl. tax is $5,400.00

MDA as some of you are aware, rejected my Ride Across America proposal. Unfortunate. I still though am interested in raising funds for those afflicted w/ a neuromuscular diease. The trek is not off yet.

So as follows this site has expressed an interest. Quote form their site as follows:

"Families of SMA was founded in 1984 for the purpose of raising funds to promote research into the causes and cure of the Spinal Muscular Atrophies, and to support families affected by SMA. Since then, this volunteer-driven, non-profit organization has raised more than $10 million for research into SMA."

See http://www.fsma.org <---- note the .org please.

Would the idea of running a raffle for a Segway HT be of interest if tickets were, $5, $10, or $20 each. I would run this through their web site. Donations could be accepted right through their site, allowing for authenticity for those that may be sceptical of just handing over $10.00 thinking it is a scam, sham, or other unethical attempt to take money from them.
I am, if interest is enough, in a position to order a Segway HT. I believe with the enthusiasts on this site and those involved in the FSMA organization, enough could be raised. A mere 540 people @ $10.00 each would be the break even. Anything over that would go directly to FSMA.com.

As always input and suggestions requested. Thx Drew

I would be interested in any raffle that could land me a Segway. I would especially spend money on ticket if the money was going towards a good cause. The idea of the raffle being on the http://www.fsma.org site would help your chances tremendously.

How long will the raffle run for? You don't want to lose money.

The $10 ticket amount sounds reasonable.

Good luck! Let us know..

http://www.fsma.org has shown a key interest in the idea of the Ride Across America. They are directly involved with the specific form of Muscular Dystrophy my daughter is afflicted with. Thus their greater interest along with the freedom of the constraints of the MDA chain of command, rules, regulations and on and on. I am discussing with them now, both the raffle and the trip. Will get a better idea in the coming days as discussions progress. Will keep you up to date.

Any others have suggestions as to the viability of such.

Does anyone else have pros / cons to the idea?

The drawing itself would be held by the group itself, media coverage is being discussed (ensuring participants in the raffle receive a documented fair "drawing"), and time frame of such.

Other than the Segway's going up on auction earlier this year, I don't see how people won't be excited about an opportunity to own a Segway. I don't recall any other chances other than Ebay and recently Amazon to obtain a Segway.

This should be a very successful event.

Setting up raffle books would be great too! I would not mind selling a book or two to help the cause. I am sure there would be other members, maybe even ones who own the Segway already, to help out.

Again, keep us updated.

Thanks guys/gals. So far so good. Will converse with FSMA today. Update to follow post 5pmEST.

What are your thoughts of the Segway raffle in conjunction with the ride? The unit used would be the Segway to raffle. This may combine two thoughts into one, thus increasing awareness and participation. This is just a thought.

As always thx. What a great group of people we have here. Tremendous.

It would also be great if you can get this together by the holidays, what a wonderful stocking stuffer a Segway raffle ticket would make for someone.

again, keep us updated.

Magnets

Instead of a one-time raffle why not make it a recurring event?

Personally I think everyone should have a magnet with a Segway picture for their car (probably because I sell magnets).

Magnets, it sounds like a great idea. The only problem I would have going with anything like 'magnets' is the additional costs. The Segway-HT as it stands right now for the proposed benefit would cost approx. $5400.

The final amount of the machine as well as other minimal costs could possibly bring that final money amount close to or beyond $6000.

Perhaps when everything is mostly in place, 'magnets' could be something to consider. There would be nothing greater than leaving someone who contributed money to the raffle something to remember it by. Advertising the greater cause would be great too.

comments?

I am suprised there seems to be a lack of interest in this subject. I guess as a result of that, I will withdraw the offer for now unless someone has some ideas.
