Scientific Breakthrough Liberates Energy Users from Fossil Fuel Dependence

Technology breakthrough harnesses energy from the molecular structure of water

Energy Editors/Business Editors/Environment Writers/High-Tech Writers

BOISE, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 5, 2002--Genesis World Energy, a privately funded consortium created by a group of military and space program research and development specialists, today unveiled a scientific breakthrough that allows consumers to easily access the energy contained within the hydrogen and oxygen molecular structure of ordinary water. This scientific breakthrough provides a limitless, low cost and environmentally clean source of energy that can be implemented with minimal cost and effort. The viability of using water as an energy source, previously a theoretical concept, is now a reality. "Water has always been the source of life on this planet, now it will also transform the way we create energy," said Charles Shaw, corporate counsel and spokesperson for Genesis World Energy. "The implications for worldwide energy generation and consumption are nothing less than staggering."

[u]The Genesis Project</u>

The technology is the result of nearly two years of continuous effort by a team of more than 400 visionaries from a wide spectrum of disciplines, including science, technology and engineering. Assembled as the "Genesis Project," the team discovered a way to extract far more energy from water than the extraction process itself required; differentiating this new fuel cell technology from any other development efforts thus far. The key component of the Genesis Project technology is the Genesis gCell, which through a series of electro-chemical processes separates hydrogen and oxygen molecules in water. The resulting gas molecules can either be burned cleanly as a replacement for natural gas or various other traditional forms of fuel, or may be remarried within Genesis eCells (an advanced fuel cell) to generate large amounts of electrical current. When both Genesis gCells and eCells are combined, the entire process becomes self-generating, recycling both water and electricity from the molecular reattachment phase. A more detailed description of the process can be found on the Genesis World Energy Web site www.genesisworldenergy.org.

[u]The Edison Device</u>

The first application of this technology is represented in the "Edison Device," a self-contained, self-sustaining energy generation unit. Roughly the size of an outdoor air conditioning system, the power source can be quickly and easily installed in any home or business to provide virtually unlimited energy from any available water source. The Edison Device utilizes the existing electrical wiring and natural gas plumbing in a home or business to replace the energy provided by utility companies. The home version of the Edison Device produces approximately 30 kilowatts of combined gas and electrical energy per day. By comparison, the typical home uses between five to six kilowatts per day. The commercial model is capable of producing 100 kilowatts of energy per day. The energy generation portion of the devices has no moving parts. In fact, the only "mechanical" aspects of the equipment are small circulation pumps and micro-valves, making the Edison Device both silent and virtually maintenance-free. A minimum amount of water is used over an estimated 20+ years of service life.

[u]Market Ready</u>

The commercialization of the devices is the responsibility of two business entities, Genesis World Energy and World Energy Management. Genesis World Energy is a technology development, production and supply consortium, while World Energy Management functions as the exclusive licensing representative for the worldwide distribution of Edison Devices. According to Nejhla Shaw, World Energy Management President, "We will make Edison Devices rapidly available to governments and industries on a worldwide basis, with special licensing opportunities for those industries that will be most affected by the technology. For the first time in the history of the world, a clean and abundant source of renewable energy is as simple as the attachment of three wires, a gas line and a water hose."

With gasoline, I can see how you can light a match and get more energy out of the gasoline than the amount of energy in the match explosion ( output energy still equals input energy). In reality though, the energy stored in this fossil fuel was originally energy from the Sun, which was then gained by the animals & plants that became fossils. I'm just wondering how a similar explanation would be used with this technology. But possibly the explanation would be along different lines..

First, my "not a scientist or engineer" disclaimer.

Now major news organizations may have overlooked important press releases in the past, but such an important breakthrough with 400 (they claim) credible scientists involved deserves not just a press release but a major news conference, and headline coverage if true. What started bothering me was not what the website and press release says, but what they don't say.

So I looked around the website for scientist names that have allegedly been working on this since early 2001. None, even under the tab labeled "team".

I checked the Whois, and the website domain name is apparently freshly registered in November.

I did a google on "Genesis World Energy" and "World Energy Management" and found some hits, but nothing independent of this press release. At one google hit, www.matr.net/article-5090.html covers the revelation on Dec 6.

Here is part:
“ Nejhla Shaw, a former New York Life Insurance sales supervisor, is president of World Energy Management, which is the licensing representative for the Edison Device. Her son Darren Shaw, who previously owned a wireless communications company in Arizona, is CEO. Another son, Charles Shaw, is corporate counsel for Genesis World Energy, the technology development, production and supply arm of The Genesis Project.

The list of details not revealed about the project was longer.

Among the questions the Shaws declined to answer were: What are the names of those involved in the privately funded consortium?

Where did the research take place, and what are the locations of a residential home and industrial facility said to be fully operational using the Edison Device? How much was invested in research and who provided those funds? “

Case closed.

I have issues with Genesis for a few reasons, in addition to the general lack of information they provide about the 'team':

"The resultant remarrying of the hydrogen and oxygen molecules produces, in a single eCell stack, more than 1,000 amps of electrical current. "

I find this figure to be highly questionable. No normal residence could possibly use 1000 amps, even with all of the appliances running. The main circuit breaker in our average sized three bedroom home is rated at 100 amps.
Also, if you are marketing a power production technology, you would normally specify it's output in watts or kilowatts, not in amps.

"A single gCell stack, which is no bigger than a car battery, is capable of producing hundreds of cubic feet of customer usable gas per day. By comparison, the average American home in cold climate areas consumes approximately five cubic feet of gas per day."

This figure is wildly inaccurate. Five cubic feet per day times 30 days = 150 cubic feet. Our last gas bill showed we used 5200 cf for the month. We live in a cold climate area, but not Nome, Alaska !

"With Blessings, Genesis World Energy"

"Call it fate or divine inspiration, but the Genesis team knows that every aspect of this journey came together by design. From every team member and each successful milestone, to the amazingly short development process - this scientific breakthrough is nothing short of a miracle."

"This team of dedicated men and women who have very diverse ethnic, religious and political backgrounds were able to set aside their differences for the common benefit of mankind. "

I don't wish to set an anti-religious tone, but the above language implies a somewhat messianic image for the company. Don't know what to make of that...

It's interesting to try to figure out what the motivation would be for this Genesis group to post this information on the internet...

If you really had come up with something of the magnitude, that they're claiming, would you post it on the internet? Granted the info hasn't been disseminated very widely, but you would think that advertising that you've come up with 'a technology that's going to put a lot of mainline energy companies out of business', is going to attract a little attention, not only from companies, but also from nefarious individuals and governments, whose intension would be either to steal this technology, or to prevent it from coming into existence.

The motivation is fairly straightforward. Patrick Kelly, the man who created the Edison device publicized by Genesis World Energy has been selling stock in another company that he claims owns the device, United Fuel Cell Technologies. Genesis World Energy was created to help Kelly sell more UFCT stock, without making himself available to the press. This is a man who does not want his picture taken at press conferences.

So Bob Park called it in his column on December 13, a securities scam http://www.aps.org/WN/WN02/wn121302.html#3

I've got a lot more coverage on
