Well guys I guess I can't take this Segway insanity any further than this.

I was just granted the license plate SEGWAY by the Secretary of State.

I should receive them in about a month and a half. Now if I could just receive my Segway with my plates. I will post a picture once they are received.

I imagine there is a good chance for any of our new Segway buyers to do the same in their home states [except Illinois :)] Who knows how much longer that will last.

Someone could apply for SEGWY HT: you can only fill seven spaces.

Weskifm - the license plate idea was a stroke of genius. My compliments.

Hi Steve,
Thanks, but I'll probably get the plates before the Segway. So what I'll probably do is just take a picture of me with the plates around my neck. Unless I can get the Segway early. But on a serious note, the plates will be on my vehicle.

Weskifm: I was reading the thread of whether a Segway was a vehicle and the theoretical analysis of stopping distance. You can end the debate here and not by wearing your "Segway" license plate around your neck after your unit comes in.

I never realized that you had already been that many hours on one. That must have been exciting, and I will remember the warning about the kick stand. I am one of those stupid enough to forget to do lift it up.

Finally, has anyone considered forming a Segway Owners Club? This website is about as close it comes to one, but if everyone contributed, it would help defray Frank's costs to maintaining the site.

Hi Steve,
Don't feel bad yet. I was one of the five (5) that broke the parking stand.

I try to ride now at least once a week.

I haven't seen any topics about a Segway Club, but one of my topics a while back was about a Midwest Segway Rally for the summer of 2003. It was a 23 October 2002 Posting titled Midwest Segway Rally. I was figuring the Segway would be out for sale to the public by the summer of 2003.

Was this a costly replacement for your company to replace the kick stand? If you don't know, could you find out ;) (please)

BTW: Congrats on your license plate!

No it was not a costly replacement; can you keep a secret? You guessed it, what parking stand? Do you mean the wall. I don't think it's too difficult to put on.

Blinky I'm only doing this for you. If I wasn't a ten finger typist I wouldn't do this.

Replacing a Parking Stand (i-Series only)
Tools Required: 4mm hex wrech, T-15 six lobed wrench, 16mm socket wrench, alcohol wipes, plastic or rubber mallet, torque wrench

Before you begin:

* Make sure machine is shut down and not plugged into AC.

1. Tip Segway HT onto left side.

2. Remove right tire/whee. assembly by first grasping wheel tightly. Do not allow it to turn.

Warning!Be careful not to cut finger on fender when removing tire/wheel.

3. Use 16mm socket wrench to remove wheel nut.

4. Remove tire/wheel assembly by tapping inside of wheel with plastic or rubber mallet.

5. Use T-15 six lobed wrench to remove 6 screws from right fender

6. Grasp fender with both hands, flex toward you, and remove from gearbox.

7. use 4mm hex wrench to remove 2 parking stand fasteners.

8. Place new parking stand on chassis and align fastener holes.

9. Install two M5 x 0.8 x 8 socket head cap 4mm hex screws and torque to 5.0 N-m

10.Check that parking stand operates properly.

11.Reinstall right fender. Tight fit may require flexing. Begin with end screws and work toward middle.

12.Thread in 6 new M4 x 0.7 x 10 button head T-15 6-lobed screws and torque to 1.5 N-m.

13.Reinstall right tire/wheel assembly by first cleaning all contacting surfaces with alcohol wipes.

14.Slide tire/wheel assembly onto gearbox stud, rotating until hex grooves align and seat taper properly.

15.Thread wheel nut onto gearbox stud, tighten and torque to 50.0 N-m.

16.Perform post-repair check (See Post repair Checklist page).

SO AS IT IS WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF SEG.

And no I don't think it's expensive to replace: only if you ship it back to Segway to be replaced.

Weskifm,

I'm just curious, what exactly do you do for a living that blesses you with a Segway?

Weskifm,

I thought the ultimate Segway commitment was forking over five-thousand-bucks!

What did that license-plate set you back? $200?

Hi Brooster,

I'm sure everyone will probably receive The Book of Seg when they take their training.

And as the Irish say: Ahhh, and a good book it is. The Book of Seg. It contains all things good and wise.

I was told not to respond to this but I wanted to anyway.

Yes (except for my stint in Viet Nam) I've looked at them for the last 34 years, as I've gone to work at the same job. I've worked for and earned what I spend THANK YOU. And believe me, my job (I'm quite sure) is a lot tougher than any job you'll ever have (if you have one). And yes at my level the pay is very good.

In CA segway and and segway1 are already taken, but other combos are available. Hmm I'm tempted...

I got the NY license plate: SEGWAY in late February. Surprised no one had taken it. Got it on-line direct from DMV; $34.00.

Very C-O-O-L!!
