New York State Electric and Gas is hitting the streets with their new Segway Human Transporters. The HT's as they're called, are being used by NYSEG meter readers...
Todd Hart, a meter reader said, "Traffic stops, and people come out of their houses, it's like nothing they've ever seen before."...

I recall having read about metermaides testing out Segways but not meter readers of the sort mentioned here.

BTW notice the appropriateness of the "NYSEG" acronym.

There's a more elegant, high-tech solution to meter reading than Segway:

quote:The utility plans to replace its human meter readers over the next three to five years, said Corbin A. McNeill Jr., Peco's president.

That may still make it worth while for using Segways for meter reading in the next 2-3 years.
