Segway Parking Stand (http://www.segway.com/individual/models/accessories.php#parkit)

Ok, well, it's not exactly the futuristically designed parking stand we had originally seen in the i2 and x2 literature, but . . . it's the "offical" parking stand designed and for sale by Segway, for Segways.

Does it work? Yes, on level surfaces.
Is it perfect? Well, no.

Advantages? It actually is designed for the Segway and doesn't get in the way of normal operations.
Disadvantages? It wasn't designed very well and has a spring that is prone to failure.

Too flexible, fragile, and prone to failure. The spring needs to be stiffer and less prone to permanent deformation, and the wrapping needs to be heavier and more rubbery.

And being on the front of the machine it can get caught and damaged. Any weight in the bag, then the stand will not hold up and the Segway will fall forward.

I will just say one word about the stand.

TIMBER!

This piece is only functional if you are willing to reinforce it. An internal wooden dowel makes a big difference, but the owner shouldn't have to redesign and build the accessory.

You pay $5K or more for a Segway, then they charge $50 (or more) for a parking stand that is so flimsy that it only works for the first couple of uses... What a waste of money!

I purchased these with my Segways, not realizing that they were made of rubber rather than steel. I can't imagine not having a parking stand with my Segway, so when these die (which they surely will, since they're so flimsy), I'll replace them with something sturdier.

My dealer explained that making them this way was a safety feature, so that if a rider mounts the Segway without disengaging the parking stand, the stand would break to avoid injuring the rider.

These came with our Segways, so we did not have to pay for them. Why they are not made of something more sturdier I do not know. I can't imagine not having a parking stand with my Segway, so when these die I'll replace them with something sturdier.

I bought a practically new i2 from a friend with this parking stand already installed. I never really used it since the darn thing got caught on my front porch step the very first time I brought it in the house. I took it off immediately and ordered one of the Funky-Move kickstands. Not only is it strong and nice looking but it does not scrape going in and out my front door.

I still have the virtually unused kickstand if anyone is interested in buying it. ;)

What a waste! Lasted only a few weeks. Once the spring bends, it's almost impossible to bend it back into place and make it useable. Parking stand is an engineering fiasco. Found it easier to purchase a 19 cent door stop and lean the Seg against a wall.
