I suggest that this thread be used to gather tips on how to access new and relevant info on Segway related news. It seems that some people at TIQ manage to dig up new info. even though the rest of us dont seem to be able to turn up anyting new.

It would be advantageous for this forum to be able to post the news here first so that people will want to come here to keep updated.

Here are some of the search strategies I have used:

The main search engine I use is google.
http://www.google.com/

Finding the right key words is the key to turning up interesting info. Searching by date helps find the newest stuff. The filter helps narrow down the searh. This is very basic. I assume everybody know this.

When I find a site that has news about Segway, I often search the site for more info. Sometimes something new pops up.

I also check this site quite frequently:

http://segway.weblogs.com/

DweebCabal also has a Segway search engine:
http://www.dweebcabal.com/news/dk-news.htm

Hopefully Frank can make a similar search engine for this forum.

It is dedicated to news about Segway. Often TIQ members find news before it is posted on the weblog though.

For checking new patent applications, patents and trademarks I go to:

http://www.uspto.gov/

http://www.delphion.com/

I cant locate the search page for the European patent office for the time being.

Newspapers that focus on the Segway:

http://www.theunionleader.com/

Here is a list of Segway news links that seem rather comprehensive:

http://www.sirlinksalot.net/segway.html

Other tips:

Plug the names of key Segway employees into the search engines and the word Segway.

Lets have some other tips folks:

A related suggestion:

I suggest that people who do searches log the search they do on this thread. Include the date and time u did the search. That might save us some time and effort. I would think we should be able to manage to do some collaborative work on this forum.

Rollin was kind enough to tell me about how he manages to find new info:

quote:Gladly, although I don't think it will help you. I have a proprietary scour bot that uses multiple sources of web and scanned in data. I have repurposed some of the bots to search for segway articles, legislation, blogs, etc.
I wish I could provide the engine, but alas, it is simply not doable.
Google and other commercially available search engines do pretty well, and get about 85 % of what mine seems to able to do.

Could anybody here do something similar?

For patents I use:

Patents query: an/deka or (an/power and an/concepts) (http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&u=%2Fnetahtml%2Fsearch-adv.htm&r=0&p=1&f=S&l=50&Query=an%2Fdeka+or+%28an%2Fpower+and+an%2Fconcepts %29&d=ft00)

None of the patents are assigned to Segway LLC.

For trademarks I use: TESS Free Form Search (http://tess.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=search&state=hepqsh.1.1) with the query:

(live)[LD]and((deka)[ON]or((power)[on]and(concepts)[on]and(new)[on])or(segway)[on]or((Acme)[on]and(manufacturing)[on]and(llc)[on]))

This will search for (live) trademarks assigned to
DEKA New Power Concepts Segway Acme Manufacturing LLC

Segwaychat has now recieved it's own newsfeed so that we wont have to spend so much time searching for news. Good work Frank! I expect he will tell us what the newsfeed does not pick up.

Arent there programs that can automatically inform u when a site changes its pages? It would be nice to keep tabs automatically on Deka and Segway sites.

The newsfeed is completety configurable, meaning you can create multiple feeds which will search for multiple keywords. Right now we have a "Dean Kamen" and "Segway" keyword feed. In terms of the extent or amount of news it picks up, time and experience will give us a more accurate idea. Here is some info about the newsfeed and how often it's updated:

"Moreover Technologies is a provider of real-time information management solutions to Global 2000 companies, delivering essential online information in time to impact business decisions. Unlike traditional news services that resell archived information, Moreover’s robust technology scours the web every 15 minutes to capture the most actionable information from more than 3,000 qualified, hand-picked sources -- including news sites, industry sources and company websites. Moreover's Connected Intelligence™ solutions are customized to provide business users with continuous, job-specific information. Easily integrated into any corporate portal, intranet or desktop, Connected Intelligence gives organizations a single point of access to the information they need to succeed. Customers like PeopleSoft, salesforce.com and The McGraw-Hill Companies rely on Moreover to help them target revenue opportunities, outsmart their competition, save money and increase productivity."

So while it may not be comprehensive and catch EVERY site out there, it should keep us alert to new info.

If you want to suggest additional newsfeed keywords, please do so.

- Frank
