Was won by economist Muhammad Yunus with Bono and Sir Bob Geldof sitting on the sidelines. It warms my heart to see someone who actually lends a hand up and not a hand out win this prize.

If the Grameen Bank sounds familiar, it should. Iqbal Qadir worked a deal with Grameen Bank to start Grameen Phone. If that still isn't ringing bells, Qadir is one of the people working with Dean to bring DEKA's stirling power and possibly water to some of the poorest places in the world. Once again, the water and power plan is to enable people in developing nations to get micro-loans to start businesses, selling power and water. I tip my hat to the people doing it the right way, teaching a man to catch a fish.

edit: I just wanted to add that I had the chance a few years back to hear Qadir speak and to meet him in person. He is very smart and inspiring, I would recommend sitting in on one of his talks if you are given the opportunity.
